Viewing Event Record: Lambarde mentions Paris Garden, the Bel Savage, and the Theatre as common resorts for entertainment at reasonable prices

Abstract

William Lambarde's 1596 edition of the 'Perambulation of Kent' compares the graduated fees paid to see holy relics to the graduated pricing scheme at the Paris Garden, the Bel Savage, and the Theatre: '[where] they first pay one pennie at the gate, another at the entrie of the Scaffolde, and the thirde for a quiet standing.'
