Abstract

In a letter to the Count-Duke of Olivares, Spanish ambassador Don Carlos Coloma reports that while he awaits the reply of King James, the King's Men have performed Thomas Middleton's 'A Game at Chess' for nine days 'to the general applause of bad men.' Coloma encloses a translation of Secretary Conway's response to a letter of complaint sent by Coloma to the King.
