In a Chancery suit between Jane Langley and Hugh Browker, Richard Bury affirms that he 'did subscribe his name as a witness' to Browker's sale of the thousand-year lease of the Paris Garden manor to Michael Smalpage, dated 'the eight day of June in the thirtieth year of the reign of our...sovereign Lady Queen Elizabeth.' He also recalls being present 'as a witness' to both the will and death of Smalpage in 1594.
