The 1631 edition of John Stow's 'Annals' continued by Edmund Howes contains an account of the burning and rebuilding of the Globe theatre. The Globe was burned 'by negligent discharging of a peale of Ordnance, close to the South side thereof, the Thatch tooke fire, and the wind sodainly disperst the flame round about. . . and no man [was] hurt: the house begin filled with people, to behold the play, viz. of Henry the eight[.]' But the next spring it was 'new builded in a far fairer manner than before.'
