In a dedicatory poem appended to the 1652 quarto of Richard Brome's 'The Northern Lass,' Ben Jonson addresses Brome as his 'old Faithfull Seruant' and commends him for serving his 'A Prentise-ship' as a poet by learning the 'old Arts' and 'Comick Lawes' of which Jonson professes to be 'Master.' He condemns those who practice trades and crafts that they have not 'bin bred in.'
