Abstract

One of the masters of the Bear Garden, named Godfrey, offends Parliament by opposing a petition against bear-baiting. A subsequent report in the House of Commons, delivered by a Mr Whitacre, recommends that, 'in these times of great distraction,' all future bear-baiting activities be suspended, 'until this House do give further orders herein.'
