William Beeston testifies in his lawsuit of 1658 against Richard, Earl of Dorset that the plaintiff's father Edward, Earl of Dorset, granted the lease on Salisbury Court to Richard Gunnell and William Blagrave in 1629 on the condition that they should erect a playhouse and other buildings on the property at their own expense. Gunnell and Blagrave erected on dwelling house and one playhouse at the cost of £1000.
