Sir Henry Herbert notes in his office book that on 16 February 1635 he committed Cromes, a broker in Long Lane, to Marshalsea for having lent a church robe with the name 'JESUS' on it to the players at Salisbury Court, 'to present a flamen, a priest of the heathens.' Cromes was released the following day, upon submission and acknowledgment of his fault.
