Hook observes that: "The notes are bound at the end of the volume referred to by Collier as belonging to Mr. Pickering, the bookseller, who sold it to Sir Thomas Phillips in 1844, significant in that The Works of Shakespeare, edited by Collier, was published the same year. Since 1948, the Stow volume has been in the Folger Library, where the possibility has just recently been suggested that the manuscript is a Collier forgery.'
