The Privy Council writes a letter to the Lord Mayor of London, ordering the playhouses shut down until 'after Bartholomew tide next ensuinge,' as the council has been 'given to understand that certaine outrages and disorders were of late committed in certaine places and theaters erected within that Citie of London or suburbes of the same, where enterludes and comedies were usuallie plaied.' The heat of the coming summer and related threat of plague infection are also factors.
