Cuthbert Burbage sues Giles Allen in Requests court over the Theatre playhouse property. Thomas Bromfield deposes 15 May 1600. Bromfield testifies that James Burbage did pay for many improvements to the properties over the years, and that Burbage employed him on the improvements. He affirms that Cuthbert continued the annual repairs, and that last year alone Bromfield was paid 50s for work. He admits he was not familiar with the state of the property before James Burbage leased it, but that he has worked on it for the last ten or eleven years, and that in all he was paid twenty marks by James Burbage. He says he has heard that the buildings earn more rent now than they did as workplaces under Giles Allen. Bromfield does not know much about the old decayed barn in question, other than that it was shored up against the Theatre.
