Viewing Event Record: Richard Tarlton introduces a vulgar word into the theatre

Abstract

According to Sir John Harington, Master Tarlton – 'the excellent comedian' – has introduced the vulgar word 'prepuse' into the Theatre, to 'great applause.' It is not clear from the context whether Harington means to refer to theatre in general, or more specifically to the Theatre playhouse.
