Viewing Event Record: The privy council stays the erection of Philip Rosseter's new playhouse until they have determined its fate

Abstract

The privy council deliberates over complaints raised against Philip Rosseter's plans to build a new playhouse in the Blackfriars, pursuant to closing of the Whitefriars theatre. They forbid Rosseter and his workmen from proceeding any further on the current site, noting that Rosseter's patent does not license him to build in the City, but only without the liberties.
