In Shakerly Marmion's 'Holland's Leaguer,' the scheming Agurtes refers to an old project to build an amphitheatre that threatened the other playhouses. He says he has 'plots of Architecture, and [is] erecting / New Ampitheatres, to draw the custome / From Play-houses once a week, and so pull / A curse upon my head from the poore scoundrels.'
