Abstract

Middleton's 'The Ant and Nightingale' mocks the habits of the London gallant, which include a trip to the Bankside, 'where he must sit out the breaking up of a comedy, or the first act of a tragedy: or rather, if his humour serve him, call in at the Blackfriars, where he should see a nest of boys able to ravish a man.'
