Gabriel Harvey in his 'Four Letters and Certain Sonnet' written against Robert Greene and Thomas Nashe notes that Nashe wrote his 'Pierce Penniless' 'according to the stile, and tenour of Tarletons president, his famous play of the seauen Deadly sinnes which . . . I might haue seene in London: and was verie gently inuited thereunto at Oxford, by Tarleton himselfe[.]'
