In a letter to Sir Dudley Carleton dated 8 March 1617, Edward Sherburne describes the apprentice's riot of 4 March in Drury Lane. Sherburne's account provides more context for the event than Chamberlain's. Of the three or four thousand apprentices involved, part made for Wapping and the others for Drury Lane, where they 'beset the house round, broke in, wounded divers of the players, broke open their trunks, and what apparel, books, or other things they found they burned and cut in pieces.' He notes that one of the apprentices was killed, and many others wounded.
